Yoshitaka Oku received his M.D. degree in 1982 and Ph.D. in 1992 from Department of Medicine, Kyoto University, Japan. Since 2005, he has been a Professor with the Department of Physiology, Hyogo College of Medicine. He is the author / coauthor of 18 books, and 74 peer-reviewed articles.
His research interests are the control of breathing, especially, rhythm generation, pattern formation and coordination between swallowing and breathing. He is also conducting translational research dealing with a swallowing monitoring device and a percutaneous electrical stimulator to treat patients with dysphagia (swallowing project) since 2005.
Prof. Oku is a member of International Society for Autonomic Neuroscience, Japanese Respiratory Society, Japanese Physiological Society, Japan Neuroscience Society, and Japanese Society of Internal Medicine.
