Professor Kian Fan Chung is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Head of Experimental Studies at National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and Consultant Respiratory Physician at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, London. He is a Senior Investigator of the UK National Institute for Health Research.
Professor Chung has a major interest in developing precision medicine and personalised treatments as applied to asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, with an understanding of the place of current and novel treatments for obstructive lung disease. His research focus is on the role of gene-environmental factors including pollution and pathogens on both the innate and acquired immune responses that impact on inflammatory and remodelling pathways in the airways and lungs. He is also harnessing the power of e-monitoring in the management of lung disease.
Professor Chung trained in medicine in London and Oxford, with research experience at the University of California, San Francisco. He has published extensively with Google Hirsch Index of 118. He is on the Editorial Board of several journals including Lancet Respiratory Medicine, and Respirology. He has authored over 700 articles with a Google Hirsch index of 118.
