A/Prof Fraser Brims is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, Western Australia (WA) and Director of Early Years Communication and Clinical Skills at Curtin University Medical School. He the Deputy Director of the Institute for Respiratory Health and Chairs the WA Mesothelioma Registry. Fraser’s main research interests include clinical and epidemiological aspects of occupational (particularly asbestos) related lung disease, mesothelioma and the detection of early lung cancer using low dose CT scans.
Prof Brims is clinical lead for the WA Asbestos Review Program, a prospective longitudinal cohort of ~1,750 individuals with annual low dose CT scans for the detection of early lung cancer and asbestos related diseases. He was Principal Investigator for an international multicentre randomised controlled trial examining the effects of early palliative care in mesothelioma patients and is also a local investigator for an NHMRC international study into lung cancer screening using low dose CT scans.
